Northcoast Oil Company was formed by Jack M. Thorson in 1991, and he continues to serve as president.
In 1993 Northcoast drilled its first two company operated wells in West Bay Field, Plaquemines Ph., LA on a farmout from Chevron and Texaco. Due to the great success of these two wells, in 1999 the Chevron/Texaco farmout area was increased and with the interpretation of 3D seismic and integration of well data, Northcoast completed a ten well drilling program. In 2002 Northcoast sold all of its production and operated properties.
The next drilling program for Northcoast was in Bayou Villars Field, Jefferson Ph, LA and resulted in production from four successful completions. Northcoast had acquired open state leases in a formerly producing field and developed the remaining reserves with a drilling program in 2004. This property was also sold in a production sale that was finalized in 2006.
Recent activity by Northcoast has primarily focused on single-well prospects with a non operated interest in wells submitted by outside geoscientists. Northcoast has served as a consultant to facilitate the drilling of these third party prospect wells. In addition, Northcoast was instrumental in the development of a 110 square mile 3D seismic shoot in St. Charles Ph., LA.
Northcoast’s in-house partners are consultants who participate with Northcoast and share in the oil and gas exploration success. These partners include: Eric C. Broadbridge (geologist – 37 years experience), Robert J. Martin (attorney/landman – 57 years experience) and Daryl Gambrell (engineer/operations – 52 years experience).
Northcoast continues to maintain an "operator status" with the State of Louisiana however continues to drill wells with other companies who elect to operate.
